The late Detective Corporal Avarine Morris has been hailed as a champion and warrior, who continued to serve and protect, despite having cancer.

Morris was laid to rest today, following a funeral service at the Sharon Baptist Church, in St. E Elizabeth.

She passed away on Christmas Eve last year, after a long fight with an aggressive sinus cancer.

The Police Federation, along with the Jamaica Constabulary Force welfare division and other partners, assisted Morris over the years, as she received treatment from the Kingston Public Hospital and the University Hospital of the West Indies.

Morris got support to seek treatment in Mexico in 2024 and had returned to active duty afterwards.  

Chairman of the Police Federation Sergeant Arleen McBean expressed appreciation to health teams at the hospitals, even as she again called for implementation of a protocol for the treatment of police officers.

Sergeant McBean lamented that cops do not have full health insurance coverage.

She assured Morris daughter of continued support from the police force.
