With cooler temperatures and heavy winds and rain from a cold front, adversely affecting crops, an appeal is being made for the Agriculture Ministry to provide support to farmers in St. Mary.
Mayor of Port Maria Fitzroy Wilson noted that the St Mary Municipal Corporation, and the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) are working closely with farmers to mitigate the impacts.
Flowering plants, to include tomatoes, cucumbers, red peas and string beans as well as hot and sweet peppers, are among those affected.
Mayor Wilson also pointed out that the farmers are still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Melissa.
He said while the storm caused major damage to western parishes, the authorities should remember that eastern parishes also sustained some damage, and persons in these areas also need support.
