Even as nurses at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James have reportedly agreed to resume normal duties following a protest yesterday, an appeal is being made for them to hold strain.

This, as management, is reportedly in the process of setting up a dome to serve as temporary space for putting patients and relieve the over-crowding in the Accident and Emergency department.

Clinical Coordinator Dr. Delroy Fray explained that impacts from hurricane Melissa and use of temporary areas, reduced the normal, over 300 bed capacity by 50% and this created a challenge.

Dr. Fray said despite the over-crowding, staff have been working hard to continue offering services.

He assured that within another 2 weeks, the department should be able to accommodate its normal 350 bed spaces.  

Dr. Fray said contingencies were implemented during yesterday’s protest by the nurses, to ensure that patient care was not affected.
