Use of the emergency procurement process is being cited for the timely acquisition of new water trucks to supply residents in communities ravaged by Hurricane Melissa.
Normally, the regular procurement would have taken months.
Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness noted that with many citizens without the commodity due to disruption following the storm, the trucks come at an opportune time.
He was speaking yesterday at the handing over ceremony for 12 new trucks to the National Water Commission (NWC).
Dr. Holness made reference to another 8 trucks requested months ago and are still in procurement.
He pointed out that the regular procurement process which is very bureaucratic needs to be more efficient.
He said artificial intelligence (AI) is being considered as a means of speeding up service delivery.
