With just 2 days until the September 3 General Election, the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) says it is making final preparations with ballot boxes being distributed to various locations and several meetings slated for today and tomorrow.
On August 18, a total of 184 candidates were nominated to contest the election.
The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People’s National Party (PNP) each nominated 63 candidates.
The Jamaica Progressive Party (JPP) fielded candidates in 43 constituencies, while seven candidates were nominated for the United Independents’ Congress (UIC).
There are 8 independent candidates.
By-elections will also be held in three divisions in Kingston and St. Andrew on September 3.
Six candidates, three each from the JLP and PNP were nominated.
Director of Elections, Glaspole Brown, told IRIE FM News yesterday that the preparations are advanced for the polls.
