Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness is expected to deliver a strong country statement at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, being held in the United States.
Dr. Holness and Minister of Water, Environment and Climate Change, Matthew Samuda, departed the island this morning for New York to represent Jamaica.
They are joining Foreign Affairs Minister, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, who arrived in the U.S. at the weekend.
Speaking with IRIE FM News, State Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Senator Abka Fitz-Henley, said Jamaica will be well represented at the high-level meeting.
It is expected that the Prime Minister will return to Jamaica on Friday, September 26.
The UN General Assembly presents a vital platform for Jamaica to reaffirm its commitment to international cooperation and shared action in confronting global challenges.
On her social media pages yesterday, Mrs. Johnson Smith outlined the importance of this year’s meeting, which includes the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the UN assembly and the 30th anniversary of the Beijing platform for action for the empowerment of women and girls.
She added that she and Dr. Holness will engage in several bilateral meetings.
