She made the statement at yesterday’s funeral service for 14-year-old Teyanna Sutherland of Prospect, St. Thomas and the United States.

Teyanna also called Leah was chopped and stabbed to death by a man said to be of unsound mind, in Prospect on July 2, just 13 days before her 15th birthday.

The teen was in Jamaica to spend the summer holiday break with her father, who is a police officer.

Following the attack, the mentally ill suspect was fatally shot by police.

Ms. Charles has stressed the need for more focus on mental health.
