JLP candidate for N E Manchester refutes police reports that fatal stabbing incident occurred at constituency office

Jamaica Labour Party candidate for Manchester north eastern Audrey Marks has refuted reports that a fatal stabbing incident in Sedburgh yesterday took place during a party meeting at the constituency office.

The incident reportedly occurred in another area close to the office.

Further, there was no party meeting at the time of the incident.   

Her reaction follows the killing of 53 year old farmer Andrew Hendricks of Lower Christiana.

The police’s corporate communications network said based on reports, at about 8:50 p.m. Hendricks and another man were allegedly at a political meeting at the JLP north east Manchester constituency office when a dispute developed, allegedly over food.

A knife was brought into play and Hendricks was stabbed.

He was later pronounced dead at hospital.

In a statement this afternoon, Marks expressed sadness at the death of Hendricks. 

She said based on preliminary reports, an argument developed between Hendricks and another man during a domino game.

The argument escalated into a fight and a knife was drawn.

She said both men were wounded during the altercation.

Hendricks was rushed to the Percy Junor hospital where he later succumbed to his wounds.

Marks pointed out that the incident stemmed from a personal dispute and cautioned against politicising it.

She stressed that greater effort is needed in getting people to find peaceful, amicable resolutions to conflicts.
