The Ministry of Foreign of Affairs says it continues its steadfast efforts towards the early return of a Jamaican man who was recently deported to Eswatini from the United States.

Last month the BBC reported that Jamaican National Isaac Etoria, and 4 other people from Vietnam, Laos, Cuba and Yemen were transferred to the Southern African country.

The US described them as “criminal illegal aliens” who have been convicted of crimes ranging from child rape to murder.

Jamaica’s Foreign Ministry had initiated enquiries with the US in relation to Mr. Etoria.

In a statement today, portfolio Minister Kamina Johnson Smith, said a representative of the Jamaican High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa, accompanied by the honorary consul for Jamaica in Eswatini, visited Mr. Etoria yesterday.

She said the team found Mr. Etoria in good spirits.

The Ministry was further advised that Mr. Etoria received regular medical attention, and arrangements are being made for further connection with his family and needs.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working towards Mr. Etoria’s return to Jamaica.

It said it remains in contact with his family through its embassy in Washington, D.C.
