The police are probing the murder of 2 men in Mammee Bay, St. Ann, this afternoon.

The identities of the deceased have not been released.

The incident, which happened at about 1:20 p.m. caused a major traffic snarl along the north coast highway. 

Tyre skid marks steeped in what appears to be blood and a disabled car in the middle of the highway were telltale signs of the gruesome crime.

The St. Ann police reported that 2 persons inside the grey Toyota pro box motor car were shot and killed by unknown assailants.

The vehicle was being operated as a public passenger taxi on the Ocho Rios to St. Ann’s Bay route.

Those killed are the taxi driver and a passenger.

Police have not established a motive for the double murder.

Based on preliminary reports, 4 men, including the driver, were aboard the taxi.

Upon reaching Mammee Bay, 2 passengers asked to be let off at the intersection to Greenwich Acres.

The two men who exited the vehicle reportedly brandished guns and opened fire on the driver and other passenger, killing them, before fleeing the area.

The police were summoned and the roadway was cordoned off to allow for the processing of the crime scene.
