2022 World Under 20 200metres champion Briana Lyston has joined the ranks of a professional athlete, after officially ending her collegiate career at Louisiana State University. 

The former Hydel high school stand out, with one year of eligibility left at the collegiate level, called time on her career at LSU. 

It has been reported that her decision in opting to become a professional athlete, follows a string of injuries over the last two seasons at LSU. 

Lyston the 2024 South Eastern Conference 60metres Indoor Champion, confirmed her decision to go pro-  in a letter sent to LSU head coach Dennis Shaver . 

Lyston’s last outing was at the NCAA Indoor Championship in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Friday March 14, where she crossed the line first in her heats. 

However, she began limping immediately after crossing the line, with what appeared to be a hamstring injury and left with her trainer. 

She did not not turn up for the final the following day. 

The 24 year old Lyston also missed last year’s Senior Championship in Jamaica due to injury.
