A one-year-old boy and a foreign national are among four people killed in motor vehicle-related incidents between Friday and Saturday.
The names of the deceased have not been released.
The latest incident happened yesterday along the Bowen main road in Sheffield, Westmoreland at about 8:45 PM.
Two motorcyclists, ages 37 and 24, were killed in that crash.
Earlier, at around 4:40 PM, the 65-year-old female foreign national was killed in a collision along the Sandy Bank main road in St. Elizabeth.
She was a pillion on a motorcycle which collided with a Toyota Corolla motorcar.
On Friday, at about 12: 30 PM, the one-year-old child, who was a pedestrian, was mowed down by a Mitsubishi motorcar at the intersection of Pryce and Septimus Streets in Kingston.
Reacting to the four deaths, Vice-Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones said a similar emphasis must be placed on reducing road crashes, as is placed on murder reduction.
Dr. Jones says motorcyclists and pedestrians remain the main targets of the Road Safety Council and police this year.
77 people have died on the nation’s roadways so far this year, an 18 per cent decline when compared to the same period in 2024.
Dr. Jones laments that this data still represents far too many deaths.
