Local Government Minister is to meet with the ALGA-J next week

Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie says he is to meet with the Association of Local Government Authorities of Jamaica (ALGA-J) next week, following last week’s abrupt end to its Annual General Meeting in Manchester.

It’s reported that the meeting ended after councillors clashed over reported procedural breaches.

Among the contentions were that the agenda of the meeting was not being adhered to, and that there was no discussion about the financial report.

Speaking at this morning’s post-Cabinet press briefing, Mr. McKenzie said there is a fight for power that is not serving the interest of local government.

He said he will use his power as Local Government Minister to make that clear.
