Reggae songbird Etana has been honoured by the city of Lauderhill in Florida, with a proclamation declaring February 10 as Etana Day.
Born Shauna McKenzie in Kingston, Etana migrated to Florida at a young age. In a post on her social media, Etana expressed her gratitude, stating that she never thought she’d be honoured by the city she grew up in.
The proclamation read that Etana’s music is not only entertaining but also inspiring and uplifting, fostering a deeper appreciation for cultural roots.
It continued by noting that the Not Afraid singer was being recognised for her outstanding contribution to the reggae music industry and her empowering presence as a female artiste.
As Etana celebrates this milestone, fans and fellow musicians alike are congratulating her on the accolade.
The proclamation was made by Lauderhill’s Mayor Denise D. Grant, Vice Mayor Sarai Martin, and Commissioners Richard Campbell, Mellissa P. Dunn, and John T. Hodson.
