Edu Min provides support to Tacius Golding high school in St Catherine following shooting incident Friday

The ministry of education has mobilised support for staff and students of the Tacius Golding High School in St. Catherine after a shooting incident near school, yesterday.

Reports are that a group of men came under gun attack from unknown assailants in the Browns Hall community.

Three persons who were shot and wounded reportedly ran unto the school compound seeking refuge.

The ministry said the police were contacted and the wounded men were assisted to hospital for treatment.

In response to the incident, all students were gathered in a central location for debriefing and emotional support prior to early dismissal.

The ministry said to further support the school community, the regional community of care team will be deployed to Tacius Golding high school next Monday January 13, to provide counselling and psychosocial support to students and staff.

The team will be on-site from the start of the school day to assist in helping students and staff cope with the emotional impact of the incident and will continue to support the school as needed.

Minister of Education Senator Dr. Dana Morris Dixon noted that while no staff member or student was physically hurt, the incident had emotional and psychological impacts on the school community.

Dr. Morris Dixon urged citizens to set an example for  impressionable minds through peace-building and appropriate conflict management strategies.
