The Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) says it has seized several documents and electronic data that it believes will be helpful in its probe of allegations of serious organized crime at the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation.
MOCA, alongside personnel from the Financial Investigation Division (FID), the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), carried out a joint operation related to the probe this morning.
The operation saw the execution of search warrants across 17 locations in Kingston, St Catherine and Westmoreland.
MOCA said those locations are affiliated with employees or associates of employees of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation.
Director of Communications at MOCA Major Basil Jarrett, stresses that the investigations are still ongoing.
Major Jarrett noted that several illegal items were seized during the operations.
He added that while an individual was arrested today, the arrest was not in relation to the organized crime probe at the municipal corporation.
Meantime, today’s meeting of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation ended abruptly, after chaos broke out during a multi-agency operation at the corporation.
The operation in relation to an ongoing investigation into allegations of serious organized crime and misconduct was conducted by the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) in collaboration with other agencies.
During the operation, some councillors who had gathered for the corporation’s monthly meeting, had a disagreement over council related matters.
As a result, the meeting ended early.
