Jamaican artistes among the 2024 MOBO Awards nominees

Spice, Popcaan, Skillibeng, YG Marley, Shenseea, and last year’s winner, Valiant, are among the nominees announced yesterday December 4, for the Best Caribbean Music Act in the 2024 MOBO Awards.

The Best Caribbean Music Act category, introduced at the 2022 staging, replaces the Best Reggae Act category, which had been a part of the proceedings since 1996.

Ghetts, Central Cee, British R&B singer Jorja Smith who is of Jamaican parentage, Bashy, Cleo Sol and Odeal, lead this year’s MOBO with three nominations each.

Other nominees include British record-breaker Raye who is up for two awards and Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj and Tyla who are among the stars in the running for Best International Act.

Celebrating black music and culture, from established names to up-and-coming talent, the MOBO Awards have been running since 1996. Slated for February 18, next year, the ceremony will take place at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena for the first time.
