The sentencing of Kayodi Satchell, who pleaded guilty in September to the murder of eight-year-old Danielle Rowe, has been put off to December 20.
Satchell appeared in the Home Circuit Court today.
Her lawyer, Pierre Rogers, in making submissions today, disclosed that Danielle was murdered after Satchell allegedly contracted HIV from the child’s father.
Rogers said the 32-year-old dental assistant never meant to kill the child, but did so out of frustration because her efforts to have the father prosecuted were unsuccessful.
After the new date was set for sentencing, Satchell whispered an apology to the deceased’s mother from the dock.
She also wept openly as she was escorted by the police to the holding area.
Danielle was taken from the Braeton Primary and Infant School on June 8 last year.
She was later found wandering on Roosevelt Avenue in St. Andrew with her throat slashed.
Passersby rushed her to the Bustamante Hospital for Children, where she died two days later.
Following investigations, Satchell was charged with murder.
