Four contracts for the Government’s Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement to our Road Network (SPARK) Programme were signed today.

The contracts were signed between the Government and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC).

The National Works Agency (NWA) will be responsible for the management and implementation of all works.

Speaking at this morning’s signing ceremony, Prime Minister Andrew Holness noted that the contracts cover four packages and are valued at over $36.4 billion for the road work, while an additional $2 billion will be spent on pipes and water mains.

Mr. Holness said work is expected to begin this month, with construction scheduled to be completed within two years and an additional year for defects liability, during which the contractor would carry out repairs to defects.

The project will be divided into two distinct phases: community roads and main roads.

Today’s contract signing ceremony also saw the launch of the new website, SPARK-Jamaica.gov.jm, which will provide the public with information about the programme.
