The 150 and 300 metres sprint events for clubs and institutions will highlight the 21st staging of the PA Benjamin/Wesley Powell track and field meet at the Excelsior High school track on December 14.

The  meet  which  will  see  high school and primary school runners compete in the one day over distant event  as a qualifier for the annual Boys and Girls Athletics Championship

It will also feature the 600, 1000, 3000 and 5000 metres on the track, and given Jamaica’s field event success at the paris olympic games the schedule also include long jump, high jump, shot putt, javelin and an exhibition pole vault event. 

At today’s launch, title sponsors PA. Benjamin handed over a sponsorship cheque for 450,000 dollars for the 2024 staging.

Meanwhile, three former Excelsior Lady Eagles who were members of XLCR high school athletics team that captured 4 consecutive Girls ‘Champs’ crown from 1970 to 1973, – Dawn Walker, Grace Fairweather- Lewis and Olympian Debbie Field will be honoured on the day. 

The late former ISSA Competitions Director Georges Forbes will be honoured posthumously.
