Chairman of the Manchester Municipal Corporation, Mayor Donovan Mitchell, has instructed his attorney to write Central Manchester Member of Parliament (MP) Rhoda Crawford over statements made on a political platform two weeks ago.
Mitchell, in addressing this morning’s sitting of the Manchester Municipal Corporation, said the comments relating to funds allocated to the Knockpatrick Division are serious.
He explained that following the death of Councillor Cleon Francis in 2022, he discussed with Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie how funds for the division would be spent.
According to Mayor Mitchell, it was agreed that Ms. Crawford would recommend in writing how the funds were to be utilized.
He read letters dated between November 2022 and May 2023, said to be signed by Ms. Crawford, requesting funds to be dispersed for Christmas work, de-bushing, road rehabilitation, and social outreach in the Knockpatrick Division.
Meanwhile, Minority Leader in the Municipal Corporation, Omar Miller, asked the mayor to show understanding towards Crawford.
Councillor for the Grove Town Division, Iceval ‘Cherry’ Brown, also pleaded with Mitchell to forgive the MP.
