PM Holness says persons who benefited from FINSAC policies should not be allowed to assume power

Jamaica Labour Party leader and Prime Minister Andrew Holness says persons who benefited from the FINSAC era financial policies should not be allowed to assume power.

Speaking at a young Jamaica general meeting at the University of the West Indies last evening, he criticized the economic policy of the former PNP administration saying the country cannot go back to that system.

The Financial Sector Adjustment Company, FINSAC, matter resurfaced following last week’s publication of documents submitted to the commission of inquiry during its examination of the circumstances that led to the collapse of financial institutions in the 1990s.

Due to numerous challenges, there is still no full report on the findings of commission which was established in 2009.

Despite this the government noted the publication of the documents is to ensure transparency and prevent a recurrence of the collapse.

Adding his voice to the FINSAC discourse, Mr. Holness said the facts must be made public.
