A by-election will be held in North East St. Ann on September 30.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness made the announcement during a post Cabinet press briefing this morning.
It follows the resignation of Marsha Smith as Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency yesterday.
Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Matthew Samuda who resigned from the Senate on Monday will replace her as the candidate for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).
Mr. Holness said nomination day for the election will be next Wednesday September 11.
Meantime, one other constituency is without representation and another is expected to become vacant in October.
They are Southern Trelawny, which became vacant following the resignation of Marisa Dalrymple Philibert, and St. Andrew North West, which will lose its MP Dr. Nigel Clarke, who will take up an appointment at the International Monetary Fund starting October.
Mr. Holness said by-elections to fill these vacancies will be announced in the coming weeks.
