Aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) for North East St. Ann Matthew Samuda has affirmed that he is ready to take on the task of representing the constituency.
Samuda will be the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) candidate in the upcoming by-election for the constituency.
The by-election was called following the resignation of Marsha Smith, as MP.
It’s very likely that Samuda will be unopposed, as the People’s National Party says it will not contest the by-election and it’s not yet known if any independent candidate will enter the ring.
Nomination day is next Wednesday September 11, while election day is set for September 30.
Mr. Samuda told IRIE FM News that the JLP election machinery has been preparing for an election, be it general or by, so all is ready for next week.
He was skeptical about thePNP’s intention not to contest the seat.
When asked about his future Cabinet ministerial role, Mr. Samuda noted that this is the prerogative of the Prime Minister.
