There are reports in Turkish media that Reggae Boyz winger Renaldo Cephas has “gone missing”.
Cephas who made his Jamaica national team debut against Honduras on September 8, 2023, currently plies his trade with Ankaragucu in Turkiye’s TFF 1. Lig.
According to an article published in Turkiyetoday.com the club is reporting “They have been unable to contact Cephas, who has not attended recent training sessions.”
Head coach Cihat Arslan expressed his concern, stating that the team was expecting Cephas to appear for their opening match of the season, a 2-0 win against Şanlıurfaspor on Sunday, but he never showed up. “We don’t know where he is. We thought he would come to the stadium, but he didn’t,” Arslan said.
Cephas’s “mysterious absence” has sparked widespread speculation on social media, with fans and pundits questioning his whereabouts.
The winger, despite his alleged disappeared, has since posted a photo from a gym on his Instagram account with the caption “Stay positive,” and also posted a photo of him completing a workout.
Cephas, a former youth product of Allman/Woodford and Molynes United, began his professional career with Arnett Gardens in the Jamaica Premier League in 2019 before moving to Macedonian club Shkupi on July 6, 2022.
The 24 year old was on target 11 times in 29 league games in his lone season in the Macedonian First Football League. He also scored 4 goals for Shkupi in a 5–0 Europa Conference League win over FC Hegelmann in July 2022 before inking a deal on August 8, 2023 that saw him transfer to Ankaragucu where he has so far scored 3 goals in 31 appearances.
Ankaragucu returns to action with a game on the road against Erzurumspor FK on Saturday.
