The Cambridge High School in St. James has been plunged into mourning after one of its students drowned at a river in Senior District, Westmoreland yesterday.
Dead is 15 year old Daville Andrews.
Reports from the Westmoreland Police are that the teen was among a group of persons who went swimming at the river.
Sometime later, she went missing.
Following a search, her body was found and retrieved.
Meantime, grief counselling is being provided to the teen’s family.
Among those who visited the family home to provide support this morning was Cambridge High School Principal Harry Hanson.
Speaking in an interview with IRIE FM News, Mr. Hanson noted that Daville was a promising student who would have entered senior school in the upcoming year.
He said the school will be providing counselling for Daville’s parents and schoolmates.
Three men are dead following an alleged confrontation with lawmen in St. Thomas early this morning.
Their identities have not yet been released.
IRIE News understands that the incident occurred in an area known as poorman’s corner.
Reports are that the men were allegedly fleeing the scene of a robbery when they were intercepted by lawmen.
A confrontation ensued following which three men were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
They were later pronounced dead.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has been notified of the incident.
Assistant Commissioner of INDECOM, Hamish Campbell says the circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet clear.
