Energy Minister, Daryl Vaz says a special audit and investigation will be conducted into electricity bills which the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) issued to customers post Hurricane Beryl.
This follows numerous complaints from customers about estimated bills and a major hike in their August bills.
On Monday, the JPS told IRIE FM News that the increases were due to a devaluation of the Jamaican dollar and a switch to a more expensive fuel following the hurricane.
Speaking at a press conference this morning, Mr. Vaz said the situation cannot stand and the government has been left with no choice, but to pursue a special audit and investigation.
He said the findings of the audit are to be made public.
