President of the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services Egeton Newman has called for less talk and more action, in relation to measures aimed at curbing road crashes.
Newman noted that some of the announcements made Thursday by government officials, following the meeting of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) are points that have been discussed repeatedly over the years with little action.
Newman acknowledged that many Jamaicans tend to have knee-jerk reactions to situations.
He pointed out that the current discussions stem from the recent crash in Portland, which killed school children and injured several others.
He said the best solution to the problem of road crashes is for drivers to take responsibility when driving on the nation’s thoroughfares.
He added that enforcement of traffic regulations is key.
