Call for unity against crime made at candle light vigil for slain P M youth awardee

Residents of Davyton in Manchester are being urged to unite in the fight against crime, even as they join relatives of Ceejay Cunningham in mourning his death.

Cunningham, who was the 2022 recipient of the Prime Minister’s youth award for excellence in agriculture, was shot and killed by unknown assailants while doing tiling work at a house in the community, last month.

Relatives and residents of Davyton are still finding it hard to cope with the loss of a promising and hardworking young man, who was viewed by many as a beacon of the community.

Scores of people, including political representatives, turned up at a candle light vigil last evening, to support the family.

Member of Parliament for Manchester Central Rhoda Crawford noted that Cunningham’s murder has significantly affected the community, as many residents are fearful and concerned.

While acknowledging that investigators are following strong leads, Crawford called on anyone with information about Cunningham’s murder to share it with the police.

Meantime, councillor caretaker for the Bellefield division Mario Mitchell echoed the sentiments expressed by Crawford.
