Justice Minister Delroy Chuck wants Jamaica to experience at least a 30 percent decrease in murders for 2024.

He suggests, however, that the decline in murders could be as high as 50 percent.

Pointing to the over 1,000 murders in the country each year, he says about 300 result from domestic disputes. Mr Chuck adds that gangs have caused too many killings.

He is calling on Jamaicans to work together to achieve the reduction in murders.

The Justice Minister wants more Jamaicans to embrace restorative justice as a tool to resolve conflicts.

He also suggests that crime could go down, if more people surrender their lives to God.

Mr Chuck says Jamaica needs peace, noting that violence, among other issues, are impacting the economy and how others view the country.

He points to the recent travel advisory from the United States.

He was speaking at a restorative justice national church service at the weekend.
