Two women, including a teacher, have been charged with introducing contraband into a penal institution, following alleged attempts to smuggle items into the Black River police lockup in St Elizabeth, on Saturday (July 1). 

Reports are that during a special operation, a cellular phone, cigarettes, tobacco, ganja, a lighter and three-inch concrete nails were among the items found.

Acting Superintendent for the St Elizabeth police, Coleridge Minto, says the operation called Crack Down, saw the search of food containers.

The women charged have been identified as fifty-two-year-old Maudlyn Nelson-Forrester, a teacher of Munro in St Elizabeth and forty-one-year-old Tracey-Ann Campbell, a shopkeeper of Crawl Top in Riversdale, St Catherine. 

Both females are scheduled to appear before the Santa Cruz Magistrates Court tomorrow.
