Member of parliament for Northwest Manchester Mikael Phillips is calling on the government, to do more for the country’s mining communities.
Speaking in parliament on Tuesday, Mr. Phillips noted that his constituency is one that is impacted by bauxite mining, with the largest deposit left for Jamalco in the Mile Gully area.
He said MPs who represent constituencies affected by bauxite mining get $4 million every three years to invest in the communities, while noting that this is woefully inadequate.
Mr. Phillips added that many of the communities are lacking in water and modern infrastructure.
