$170M earmarked for mitigation works ahead of busy hurricane season

The government has allocated over $170 million dollars towards mitigation works to be carried out across the island ahead of what’s expected to be a very active 2025 hurricane season.

Works Minister Robert Morgan said based on what happened during Beryl and Rafael, the government is being proactive.

He said the government is also allocating millions of dollars for special works projects targeting drains, gullies and areas prone to flooding.

He said steps are being taken to ensure that communication challenges that affected emergency response on past occasions, are not repeated during this season.
