A 16 year old girl is believed to have drowned at a river in Senior District, Westmoreland yesterday.

Her identity has not yet been released.

The Westmoreland Police said based on reports, the teen was among a group of persons who went swimming at the river.

Sometime later, she went missing.

Following a search, her body was found and retrieved.

The community safety and security branch of the Westmoreland Police will be conducting counselling sessions with her relatives today.

Meantime, a diver who was among the rescue team on the scene lamented that they tried their best but could not save the teenager.
