15 year old Jamaican Raphael Morgan signs with Inter Miami Academy

It’s what may be called a dream come true, as young Raphael Morgan is now rubbing shoulders with Argentine legend Lionel Messi.

This as dynamic 15-year-old footballer, the son of Morgan Heritage Member Mojo Morgan, recently signed with Inter Miami CF Academy’s Under 16 team.

He was also called up to represent the Puerto Rico Under 16 National Team, within approximately one week of joining the MLS academy.

Morgan whose mother is Puerto Rican, was initially developed as an attacking player with Orlando City Soccer School South.

During his previous season with the club, Morgan recorded an exceptional 47 goals and 38 assists, demonstrating both his finishing ability and capacity to create opportunities for teammates.

Though now deployed primarily at left back, his attacking background allows him to operate aggressively in possession, overlap into the final third and provide a genuine offensive threat from defense.

Morgan is not a conventional stay-at-home defender.  His background as an attacking player gives him the ability to push high up the pitch, overlap, carry the ball into attacking areas and contribute directly to the attack.

His profile is therefore better characterized as an attacking left back, with the versatility to operate further forward when required.

Before transitioning into his current defensive role, Morgan developed across the front line as a left winger, right winger, attacking midfielder and striker.

That attacking foundation remains a major part of his game.
