A 12-year-old boy was shot and killed, and his mother shot and wounded, after the vehicle in which they were travelling, was shot up at the intersection of Lindsay Crescent and Dunrobin Avenue, in St. Andrew this morning.

A third person who was in the vehicle escaped unharmed.

Reports from the police are that sometime after 7 AM, the mother was driving her motor vehicle along Lindsay Crescent when she stopped at a traffic light.

Men reportedly drove up on a motorcycle and opened gunfire at the vehicle.

When the shooting subsided, it was discovered that both the mother and child were wounded.

They were taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies where the child was pronounced dead. The mother is undergoing treatment.

Detectives from the St. Andrew North Criminal Investigations branch are combing the scene for evidence.
