JHTA commissions comprehensive review of proposed changes to Beach Control Act

The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) has commissioned a comprehensive review of the proposed changes to the Beach Control Act.
The review aims to consider both policy and legal perspectives.
This position was outlined by JHTA President O’Brian Heron, coming out of the association’s extraordinary general meeting in Montego Bay, St. James.
Matters affecting Jamaica’s tourism industry were discussed at the meeting.
Mr. Heron said the review is being conducted on behalf of the JHTA’s membership and is intended to ensure that the association fully understands the potential implications of the proposed changes before determining its formal position.
He stated that this is an important matter that requires careful consideration.
The JHTA President added that the association’s responsibility is to ensure that members understand the proposed changes in their entirety and what that means for them and the country as a whole.
Mr. Heron said the JHTA wants its eventual response to be informed, balanced and grounded in a clear understanding of the issues.
He stated that members deserve a thorough assessment, and the country deserves a considered response.
