Jamaica’s number one ranked men’s tennis player wants St. Ann’s high school students playing the sport

Blaise Bicknell, Jamaica’s number one men’s tennis player is currently embarking on a community development program in St. Ann, Jamaica.

Now as a Custos Commando Director in St Ann , Blaise Bicknell is leading the Tennis Court Initiative.

The Custos Commando initiative is a community development program in St. Ann, Jamaica, launched by Custos Rotulorum Joseph Issa.

It empowers local residents and Justices of the Peace to form committees and lead projects that improve social welfare, environmental conservation, youth mentorship, and the preservation of local heritage.

Under this initiative, Bicknell and his team will be repaving the tennis courts at St Hilda’s High School and Ocho Rios High School. Blaise said, “ There is so much potential here in Jamaica for tennis to grow once we get the youngsters playing from an early age. The game adds so much to one’s personal development, helps with focus and mental strength” .

Born in Kingston, Bicknell learned the sport in St. Ann. Bicknell has steadily built his reputation on the international circuit over the past several years. The 24-year-old, who played collegiate tennis at both the University of Florida and the University of Tennessee, has represented Jamaica proudly in Davis Cup competition while climbing the ATP rankings.

Bicknell has a career high ATP singles ranking of world No. 306 achieved on 27 May 2024 and a career high doubles ranking of No. 1,211 achieved on 8 August 2022.

Bicknell has a career high ITF juniors ranking of No. 96 achieved on 8 April 2019.
