Ackera Nugent will miss National Senior and Junior Championships
National sprint hurdles record holder Ackera Nugent has joined the list of top competitors who will not be in action at the National Senior and Junior Championships, which gets underway at the National Stadium on Thusrday .
Nugent who holds the Jamaican national women’s 100metres hurdles record with an impressive 12.24 seconds did not give a reason for her absence, except to say on her instagram account…quote ” As we get closer to the National Championship, I want to take the time out to share that I will not be participating in this year’s championship ” end of quote.
Three days ago it was confirmed that the Olympic 100 metres silver medalist Kishane thompson and the World Championship 200 metres bronze medalist Bryan Levell will be absent from the Championship, due to separate injuries.
Meanwhile, the women’s 100 metres, will be missing Shenese Walker who ran a sensational 10.80 seconds earlier this year, and won the NCAA a 100 metres title last Saturday, while Brianna Lyston and Gabrielle Mathews will also be absent.
The athletes will be using the four day championship to qualify for the: Commonwealth Games, the Central American and the Caribbean Games, as well as the Pan American Games, The World Under 20 Championship as well as the NACAC under 18 and under 23 championship.
In the meantime, the Championship gets going on Thursday morning at 9 o’ clock with the heats of the men’s 100 meters.
