JTA and Finance Ministry locked in meeting as salary negotiations continue
The representatives of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) are locked in a meeting with the Finance Ministry as salary negotiations continue.
The meeting is taking place at the ministry’s office in Downtown Kingston.
JTA President Mark Malabver has stated that teachers in the public school system are agitated over the salary issues.
Teachers islandwide were called on to wear black yesterday and today to register their frustration due to the unresolved matter.
Last month, the JTA said the government had agreed to pay the increments; however no timeline was provided for when those payments would be made.
Mr. Malabver said he is optimistic that the ministry will be able to grant the JTA’s key items of claim.
Speaking with IRIE FM News ahead of the meeting, he pointed out that if this is not done there will be no deal.
