Jamaica’s Olympic and World Championship silver medalist Kishane Thompson’s world best time of 9.75 seconds in the 100 meters, that was done at the Jamaica Championships last June, remains uncertified by World Athletics.

This as the official certification process to determine the final status of the National Stadium track remains incomplete, approximately one year since resurfacing work was done at the facility.

The resurfacing project was undertaken to prepare the stadium for events including the ISSA Boys and Girls’ Championships, and the Grand Slam Track Series last April; but the wait continues to get the track certified.

Permanent Secretary with responsibility for entertainment, culture and special projects in the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports Deanroy Bernard, responded to the question from Opposition Spokesperson on Sports Wavel Hinds, at the Public and Appropriation Committee meeting at Gordon House on Wednesday March 11.

Bernard sought to explain why the process is taking this long.
