Twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago will be adding the Steelpan which is the national instrument to its coat of arms.

Trinidad & Tobago’s Prime Minister Keith Rowley made the announcement at a special People’s National Movement convention over the weekend. The PM stated that the three Columbus ships on the twin-island nation’s emblem is “substantial in how Trinidadians see themselves and it is now time for change. Prime Minister Rowley noted that the adjustment should be made before September 24, 2024

The steelpan also known as a pan, steel drum, is a musical instrument which originated in Trinidad and Tobago. In 2023, the United Nations General Assembly declared August 11 as World Steelpan Day. The following year, the Parliament of Trinidad & Tobago officially recognized the steelpan as the country’s national instrument.
