Three fires in the Greenwich Town division in Kingston early this morning have left more than 40 families homeless and pleading for urgent assistance.
The fires completely gutted houses and small businesses along Mahoe Drive, Majesty Gardens and Third Street.
The cause of the fires has not yet been determined by investigators.
A resident of Majesty Gardens said she sustained minor injuries while attempting to help remove an electrical wire.
The woman lamented the damage to her home and the loss of her shop, which was recently re-stocked.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for St. Andrew South Western Dr. Angela Brown Burke said it will be a monumental task for the families to rebuild from the tragedy.
She noted that the impacted residents will need food, shelter, clothing and other supplies such as work tools and school uniforms.
