Members of the entertainment industry are celebrating the release of Mavado’s son, Dantay Brooks.

Brooks, who was sentenced to life in 2021, was freed today after the Court of Appeal overturned his conviction for the 2018 murder of Lorenzo Thomas. His co-accused, Andre Hines, has also been released.


The trial lawyer who represented Dantay Brooks, Peter Champagnie KC, tells Music News he feels vindicated given today’s ruling by the Court of Appeal.’

Several entertainers shared their reactions online. Bounty Killer wrote, “Jah Naah left we out. Blessings pon blessings Dante Brooks. This one is for the books. Grandma’s prayers never go unheard.” He continued, “@mavadogully I know how much joy and happiness this means to you and the whole family, congratulations.”

Dancehall deejay Demarco shared, “Freedom yute!!! All the best. No father wants to see their son in prison!! God is the greatest!!!”

Producer DJ Frass reposted the news on Instagram, tagging Mavado and writing, “God is good. Out a road @mavadogully.”

Mineral Boss of MBR Productions shared, “Mi ball enuh, God is real.”

Selector Foota Hype simply stated, “Naah fo seh too much. Road Dantay.”

Meanwhile, Mavado has yet to publicly comment on his son’s freedom. Brooks was just 18 years old when he was sentenced to life.
