Police High Command responsible for deployment of cops including Close Protection Officers says Security Minister

by February 10th, 2019

National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang has pointed out that the Police High Command is responsible for deployment of cops, including those assigned as Close Protection Officers.

The comment follows a statement by the People’s National Party, PNP today (February 10), that the government has proposed to withdraw or minimize the security details of former ministers of government.

This in the wake of the murder of another PNP member – Marjorie Morris – at her St. Thomas home this morning, one week after Dr. Lynvale Bloomfield was killed in Portland.

Dr. Chang said there is no proposal regarding the withdrawal of security detail, as no such recommendation from the police, has come to the ministry’s attention.

He said the Police High Command assigns Close Protection Officers based on risk assessments.

Meantime, Dr. Horace Chang has offered condolences to the family and friends of former PNP Councillor Marjorie Morris.

Morris, who represented the White Horses Division, in St. Thomas, was killed at her Albion Boulevard home this morning.

She was 67 years old.

Dr. Chang called on the police to thoroughly investigate Morris’ murder and bring the killers to justice.
