Opposition Member of Parliament Peter Bunting says he felt called to make a challenge for the leadership of the People’s National Party, PNP.

Bunting is to go up against Dr. Peter Phillips for the post of PNP President at the annual conference in September.

This would be the second time in the party’s 81 year history that a sitting president would be challenged for the post.

The last time this occurred was in 2008 when then Vice President Dr. Peter Phillips went up against then party leader Portia Simpson miller for the top job and lost.

Bunting states that he is not seeking anything for himself but an opportunity to serve the party.

Mr. Bunting has poured cold water on his critics

He was at pains to point out that his decision to challenge for the presidency of the party is not a slight against Dr. Peter Phillips.
