Parliament passes law to validate tax on telephone calls

The House of Representatives this afternoon (Mar 15) passed an act, to validate the collection of a special tax on international telephone calls, terminating in Jamaica.

The telephone calls tax and validation and indemnification act, was brought to parliament this afternoon, by Finance Minister, Audley Shaw.

Mr. Shaw says the act which was part of revenue measures for fiscal year 2012/2013 proposed a charge on both domestic and international calls terminating in Jamaica.

The Finance Minister says, the act will propose to validate the collection of the telephone calls tax, from the period august 30, 2012.
