Opposition leader Dr. Peter Phillips has called on the Government to not play politics with people’s lives in relation to crime fighting measures implemented in some communities.
In his contribution to the budget debate today Dr. Phillips lamented that the authorities had promised that following the end of the state of emergency in St. James, the presence of the security forces would be maintained.
He said despite this promise, he has been informed that only about half of the security forces previously placed in the parish, remain there.
Dr. Phillips also called on the government to expand the implementation of the zones of special operations in more communities.
Meantime, National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang, rising on a point of order, countered the Opposition leader’s claims.
