Village United joins Reno in relegation
Village United’s eleven year run as one of the nation’s elite football teams has come to an end.
This after a 2-1 defeat in the Monday night game against Arnett Gardens ended their hopes of overtaking Highgate United to avoid relegation from Red Stripe National Premier League.
Village who gained promotion in 2001 and needed to win to maintain hopes of avoiding the drop, took the lead through a William Richard own goal after 7 minutes.
However a 54th minute strike by Lamar Nelson followed by Andrew Phang stoppage time effort confirmed the Falmouth based team’s participation along with former champions Reno next season in the Super League.
Village following the defeat remain rooted at the bottom of the table on 25 points after a record of five wins, 10 draws and 20 losses.
With just three games remaining in the season, Portmore United who lead the table on 66 points are in line to capture their first title since the 2007-2008 season.
Boys Town are second on 57 points followed by Waterhouse on 55.
