Three Jamaicans called up Sagicor High Performance Center

A trio of Jamaican cricketers, Jermaine Blackwood, Sheldon Cotterell and Jason Dawes are among a group of 16 new inductees to the Sagicor High Performance Center for the 2012-2013 programme.

The programme has been broadened to focus more intensely on developing the mental prowess of the players in addition to the standard rigorous training in skills development and fitness required for high performance athletes.

The players will also benefit from specialised training in a number of other areas including their roles as ambassadors, personal development, anti-doping, anti-corruption and media skills among other areas.

Also included among the 16 inductees are capped West Indies players Andre Fletcher, Johnson Charles and Carlos Brathwaite.

The new squad will be encamped from June 1 at the HPC’s facilities located at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies.

The programme will conclude in May 2013.

The WICB in the meantime has appointed former Middlesex County Academy director Graeme West to take over as head coach of the Sagicor High Performance Center.

Working alongside west will be Andre Coley who serves in the capacity of assistant coach.

This is the second squad of the Sagicor HPC since its inauguration in 2010.

Jamaican Nkrumah Bonner was among the inaugural group of 15 players who successfully completed the programme.

Another Jamaican, Andre Creary who was injured, was the only one who failed to do so.
